Columbia College Prof., Former CBS 2 Producer Rose Economou Dies
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Columbia College journalism professor and former CBS 2 producer Rose Economou has died at the age of 65.
Columbia College reported Ms. Economou died at her home in Oak Park on Sunday. The cause was not immediately learned.
Ms. Economou served as a documentary and field producer for CBS 2 from 1977 to 1980. She worked with CBS 2's Bill Kurtis on the Emmy Award-winning 1978 documentary "Agent Orange: Vietnam's Deadly Fog," Which exposed the toxic effects of the defoliant on soldiers who had served in Vietnam.
In 1980, Ms. Economou served a mid-career fellowship for the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University. She then worked as a segment producer for CBS News, and as a producer for CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Kuralt.
She also produced documentaries for WTTW-Channel 11.
Ms. Economou joined Columbia College as an artist in residence in 1990, and became a member of the journalism faculty in 1992.
In addition, Ms. Economou was a seven-time Emmy Award winner and a four-time Chicago International Film Festival Award winner. She also operated her own documentary company, With Heart Productions, and had been working for several years on a food safety film, according to Columbia College.
Family memorial services are pending, and the Columbia College and its journalism department are planning a memorial for Ms. Economou at the school.
