CHICAGO (STMW) - A Chicago Police officer and another motorist were hospitalized after the police SUV he was driving crashed with another car while he was on his way to a battery in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side Sunday morning.
At 7:15 a.m. the Chevrolet Tahoe had its lights and sirens activated and it collided with another vehicle at the intersection of West Fullerton and North Kostner avenues, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
A man behind the wheel of the civilian vehicle and the officer were both initially taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.
But as of late Sunday afternoon, both conditions were "stable,'' according to police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.
The officer was responding to a call of a battery in progress in the 4100 block of Fullerton when the crash happened, according to Mirabelli.
Baety said no citations have been written as of 3:25 p.m.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
