College Student Robbed, Maced In South Loop Subway
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are seeking a man who robbed a 19-year-old college student and then sprayed him with pepper spray on a CTA platform early Saturday in the South Loop.
At 5:53 a.m. the student was on a subway platform at 600 S. State St. when the suspect approached him and asked if he could use his cell phone, according to Central District police Lt. Richard Guerrero.
"He complied with the request but then the subject demanded everything,'' said Guerrero.
After taking the phone and the man's wallet, the suspect led him up the stairs and sprayed him in the face with mace, said the lieutenant.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics treated the victim on the scene and he was not taken to a hospital.
The suspect was described as a black man about 20, who is 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds. He had dreadlocks and was wearing blue jeans and a red jacket, Guerrero said.
No arrests have been made as of 10:15 a.m.
Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
