College Athlete From Chicago Drowns In Florida
UPDATED 3/20/11 8:56 p.m.
ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS) – A 22-year-old student athlete from Chicago appears to have drowned in Florida.
Diving crews discovered the body of Jasmine Crenshaw Sunday morning near the Summer Bay Resort in Orlando, Fla. The college junior was last seen Saturday swimming. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
Crenshaw attended the small, historically black college of Central State University in Ohio, where the Chicago native was a member of the women's track team. She previously attended Lewis University in Romeoville.
Crenshaw had competed in Florida track meets earlier in the weekend.
"The campus community extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Jasmine Crenshaw. Central State University is a family of students, staff and faculty, and losing a family member is difficult. This bright, intelligent student was full of life and taken from us much too soon," University President John W. Garland said in a statement.
Foul play is not suspected, the university said.
A memorial service for Crenshaw is planned for March 28 at Central State University. That's when students return to classes.
