Coach Hit By Line Drive Loses Eye
Baseball can be dangerous, especially from the rogue foul balls flying toward the fans. One danger that isn't heard of that often is losing an eye from a foul ball. CBSSports is reporting that a minor-league coach had been hit by a line drive and lost an eye.
According to the report, Atlanta Braves' general manager Frank Wren confirmed that on March 9, minor-league coach Luis Salazar was struck in the eye by a line-drive foul ball off the bat of catcher Brian McCann. He was standing in the dugout watching the at-bat.
Also reported is that Salazar was knocked unconscious for about 20 minutes before regaining consciousness and airlifted to a nearby hospital where he underwent three surgeries. One of those surgeries involved removing his left eye.
The minor-league coach will return to his team in four to six weeks.
