Club President: Chicago Area Men's Only Golf Club Is Fine The Way It Is

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- Now that Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia has decided to end its 80-year old policy of not allowing women as members, will Chicago's all-male golf clubs follow suit?

As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, the Chicago area has four men's only golf courses – Old Elm and Bobolink in Highland Park, Butler International in Oak Brook, and Black Sheep in Sugar Grove.

Old Elm, Bobolink and Butler have not commented. But Vince Solano, president of the Black Sheep Club, tells the Chicago Sun-Times his members do not see anything wrong with having a men's only club.

Solano says there is a market for men's only clubs. He tells the Sun-Times that he and his members like their environment, and calls it a "nice getaway" where "we don't have to answer to anyone but ourselves."

On Monday, the Augusta club, which is home of the Masters, invited former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore to become the first women in green jackets when the club opens for a new season in October. The club had been under increasing criticism the last decade because of its all-male membership.
