Clouds To Roll In; Rain, Temperatures In Mid-40s Coming For Saturday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Cloud cover will supplant the largely sunny skies in the Chicago area later Friday, and on Saturday, you'd be best advised to close all the windows and drape yourself in a blanket for the day.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says as of 11:20 a.m., it was a nippy 48 degrees at O'Hare International Airport, 45 at Midway, and 44 in Waukegan. The warmest temperature was 51 degrees in DeKalb, and Glaros says we shouldn't expect temperatures to change too much.

The high for the day is forecast at 51, with gusty east-northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph.

And while high cloud cover kept conditions sunny in the midday hours, thicker clouds were already passing over Iowa and bringing spotty showers to some areas as of 11 a.m.

The clouds will trend in the general direction of Chicago and turn the skies overcast. The clouds will also bring showers, although likely not until after midnight, Glaros says.

As the rain begins overnight, the low drops to 37. There is no risk for frost.

And if you work through the weekends, consider yourself lucky. On Saturday, the high is only 46 degrees – about 20 degrees below average – and rain will fall for most of the day.

The chance of rain is 80 percent from midnight al the way up to the late afternoon on Saturday. Rain is not expected to stop until around 3 or 4 p.m. in Chicago, and just a little earlier to the west.

But conditions improve in the week to come. On Sunday, the sun returns as the high climbs to 52, followed by highs of 59 on Monday, 65 on Tuesday, 73 on Wednesday and 74 on Thursday.
