Clerks Pepper-Sprayed When Couple Robs Beauty Supply Shop
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Incredible surveillance video of a very unusual armed robbery. The suspects sprayed the Morgan Park store clerks with pepper spray so they could steal what they wanted, human hair.
CBS 2's Brad Edwards has the story.
It started with the woman in the hoodie apparently perusing then a shove to the throat and a douse of pepper spray. It was on.
The goal was fists full of hair. It ended with a listless clerk knocked unconscious after a bruising bout and pepper spray.
Adrienne Lindsey works next door and saw the aftermath with a co-worker.
"She was reaching out trying to speak to her, but she couldn't really utter anything and her face was all red," said Lindsey.
A fellow clerk called 911.
It's alleged they cased the Morgan park beauty supply. Casing shows you're being recorded, which didn't deter the robbers.
"Either they were not aware of the surveillance video or they were not concerned," District 22 Commander James Gibson. "We do have good surveillance video and hope it produces some leads for us.
At one point, one of the robbers nearly pulled the shirt off one clerk while trampling the other, knocked cold in a pile of extensions.
Area south detectives hoping for a good tip and the clerk that was knocked out was treated at the hospital and now recovering at home.
