Clear Skies And Mild Temperatures Prevail, But Wind Gusts Bring Fire Risk
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Temperatures will be mild and the skies will be cloudless for the rest of the day Monday, but gusty winds have raised concerns about fires raging out of control.
As of 11:20 a.m., the temperature was 57 degrees at Waukegan, 59 at Midway International Airport, 60 degrees at O'Hare. Winds were gusting up to 29 at O'Hare, 30 at Midway and 33 at Waukegan.
With the full sunshine, gusty west winds up to 35 degrees, relative humidity less than 10 percent and dry ground, a red flag warning has been issued from noon until 7 p.m. Monday.
The warning means conditions are right for fires to spread out of control, and thus, Chicago area residents are advised to be careful around fires, and watch what they throw from their cars.
The overnight low drops to a chilly 35 as breezy conditions remain, and on Tuesday, the high only reaches 48 – actually 10 degrees cooler than the average for this point in the season.
The temperature will hit 51 on Wednesday, 52 on Thursday, 57 on Friday, 68 on Saturday, and 69 by Sunday.
