Claypool: Chicago School Board Fine The Way It Is
Forrest Claypool 'At Issue'
(CBS) -- The head of the Chicago Public Schools system says not even a so-called "hybrid" school board could do a better job running the schools than Mayor Emanuel and his appointees have done.
WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore talks with CPS's chief executive officer, Forrest Claypool in the latest edition of "At Issue."
The Emanuel appointee says mayoral control of the Chicago Board of Education has worked very well and brought many improvements with greater accountability. He says he doesn't deny the scandal triggered by a contract conflict that forced out Superintendent Barbara Byrd-Bennett.
He denies an elected school board -- or a "hybrid" form made up of elected and appointed members -- would have made a difference.
He says the ethical lapses of the past won't be repeated.
"At Issue" airs at 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening on WBBM Newsradio on 105.9FM.
