Classmates Raise Money For Funeral For Girl Shot On South Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Classmates of a 15-year-old Chicago girl who was shot to death last week have raised money to help pay for her funeral.
Until she was shot in the back at 70th and Campbell, apparently the innocent victim of gang warfare, Porshe Foster was a student at ACE Tech, a charter school that prepares students for careers in architecture, construction and engineering.
Stunned by her death, her classmates wanted to do something to help so they've held an art sale to raise money for her funeral expenses.
Art teacher Ivonne Cruz who organized the event, says their paintings, photographs and sculptures brought in about $500.
Cruz told the Chicago Tribune it's a demonstration of how art can help to heal the grief they're all feeling.
In all, 25 bullets riddled the house Porshe was visiting when she was killed.
She was in the backyard, talking with friends, when someone started shooting.
Porshe ran inside and collapsed.
