Phone Threat Shuts Down Columbia College Building

CHICAGO (STMW) - A voicemail threat left over the weekend has shut down one of Columbia College Chicago's buildings Monday afternoon in the South Loop.
Fire officials and the police Bomb and Arson unit continue to search the building at 618 S. Michigan Ave. after school administrators discovered a "telephone threat" made around 4 p.m. Saturday, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.
"Administrators from the school heard it today and decided to evacuate one of the buildings," Perez said.
The college issued an alert on its website indicating the building has been closed until further notice. Columbia's website indicates the Center for Multicultural Affairs is located in the building.
All classes and events have been canceled in in the building, and students are advised to "please go to other buildings," according to the alert.
Police could not provide details on the message but said it was not a bomb threat.
Crews remained at the scene as of 1:45 p.m.
