City To Crack Down On Misuse Of Disabled Placards
CHICAGO (CBS) -- City Hall is working on plans to begin cracking down on drivers who cheat by using disabled parking placards to park free at meters and other places.
As WBBM Newsradio's David Roe reports, the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities says the crackdown on fraudulent use of disabled parking placards is a priority, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Under one plan, a new ordinance would allow police to have vehicles towed and impounded for misusing the placards.
Impoundment fees and fines could reach as high as $1,000, the Tribune reported.
Aldermen tell the Tribune they know of perfectly able people who borrow the placards from disabled relatives, and others who were temporarily disabled, but are fine now and still use the placards to park.
