City Series During The Week 'Doesn't Make Sense'
CHICAGO (CBS) The White Sox and Cubs played in front of a crowd of roughly 36,000 on Monday night as the North Siders got big games from Starlin Castro and Carlos Pena in a 6-3 victory in the first game of the 2011 series.
"It was a big crowd, and for us, we don't sell out here like that all the time," White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko said. "So it definitely has a different vibe to it."
This is traditionally a series that draws big crowds and plenty of attention. However, there is a sense that interest and excitement might down this year, and the scheduling of the games at U.S. Cellular Field isn't helping much.
"The Monday thing just doesn't make sense for the Cubs and Sox," Konerko said. "But it is what it is."
For what it's worth, when the series shifts to Wrigley Field at the beginning of July, it will take place from Friday to Sunday.
