City Of Naperville Unveils Interactive Snow Removal Map
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- The City of Naperville has unveiled an innovative new way for motorists to get their road conditions during the winter.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, snow and ice will soon be coming to the roads, and Naperville residents are in luck.
After a test run during leaf collection, the City of Naperville has moved ahead with an online interactive map to show residents which streets have been plowed, and where the plow trucks are located.
The map breaks down streets in the western suburb into those "awaiting progress," where snow and salt trucks have not yet begun work; and those "in progress," where work has begun, as well as those that have only been salted versus both plowed and salted.
The map also notes that some streets are maintained by other government agencies, including the State of Illinois, DuPage County, or Will County.
Naperville Department of Public Works operation teams leader Christine Schwartzhoff told the Chicago Tribune that the need for improved communication about snow plow progress was a lesson learned from the Feb. 1 and 2 blizzard earlier this year, which dropped 21.2 inches of snow on the Chicago area.
The City of Naperville has 85 snow removal units, including 25 large plows, the Tribune reported.
