City Council Could Decide To Increase Cubs Night Games Next Week
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Wrigley Field could come alive for 10 more nights a season. The Cubs want more night games, and next week, the idea is expected to go before City Council.
Right now, the Cubs are limited to 30 night games a season, but next week, City Council could be taking-on the issue to create up to 40 night games a season.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel is expected to propose an ordinance to the City Council that would increase the night game ceiling.
The Cubs already promised to schedule only 35 of those games, reserving the remaining 5 for Major League Baseball requirements.
The Cubs are also working to move forward with a $500 million renovation of Wrigley field, which includes a massive LED screen, more signage above the seats, and a hotel next door.
Ricketts talked about moving the Cubs to Rosemont if he doesn't get his way.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel says team owners realize City Council has the last say on the Cubs' plans.
"They also know how important Wrigley Field is to their business, and how important Chicago is to their business," said Emanuel.
The next City Council meeting is Wednesday morning at 10.
