CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago City Council committee is recommending approval of a new charter school in the McKinley Park area that was previously rejected by the Chicago School Board, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Committee Recommends Charter School Previously Rejected By CPS
12th Ward Alderman George Cardenas wants Concept Schools to open a charter school on West Pershing Road but the Chicago Public Schools rejected its application. The school then appealed to state officials to approve.
That bothered Alderman Robert Fioretti .
"Why did CPS say no, and to me, maybe CPS made the right decision once. So, I'm leaning because of that no to vote no on this," said Fioretti.
Alderman Cardenas stresses he is the one who should what people in his community want and despite some opposition, the plans won committee approval.
