Cicero Police Officer Shot During Police Investigation
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Cicero police officer was shot during a police investigation, according to Chicago Police.
The incident happened near 42nd Street and Cicero Avenue near I-55 just after 5 p.m. Thursday. A Cicero spokesperson said there was a shootout with Cicero and Chicago officers. The Cicero officer was shot several times and rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital. The officer was reported to be in serious condition.

Chicago and Cicero Police held a press conference around 7:30 p.m.
The officer, shot multiple times, is in stable condition. He is recovering from four gunshot wounds: two in his arms, one to the leg, and one in the stomach at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Cicero Police Superintendent Jerry Chlada said Cicero Police were conducting a traffic stop when the offender got out of his car and began shooting at officers, striking the officer multiple times. Another officer began a foot pursuit as the suspect continued firing at officers.
A civilian with a concealed carry permit also engaged in gunfire with the offender.
The offender suffered a gunshot wound and is in police custody. He is recovering at a local hospital and listed in serious condition.
Chicago Police Sgt. Rocco Alioto said Chicago Police are handling the criminal aspect of the investigation. The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Sources say the officer was shot at least two times. The alleged offender was taken to Stroger Hospital in unknown condition.

Chicago Police say a suspect is in custody.
A number of police markers were placed on the scene, indicative of bullet casings on the ground.
