Cicero Man Killed In West Side Drive-By

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police assigned to a high school football game at a West Side stadium heard the gunshots that claimed the life of a Cicero man Friday night.

The shooting happened at 5:41 p.m. near South Central Avenue and West Roosevelt Road, police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety said.

The man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 23-year-old Jorge Palacios -- was shot once in the chest and three times in the neck, Baety said.

Palacios, of 4907 W. 30th St., was pronounced dead at 6:42 p.m. Friday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the medical examiner's office. A Saturday autopsy confirmed he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and the death was ruled a homicide.

Palacios was driving west on Roosevelt Road when somebody approached in a vehicle, pulled a gun and began shooting, police said.

Officers detailed to a football game at Rockne Stadium at 1117 S. Central Ave. heard five gunshots and left the stadium, according to a police report.

Marine Military Academy and Farragut Career Academy had a 3:15 p.m. game at the stadium. Marine won the game 26-0.

Witnesses told the officers to go west, and while driving toward Central Avenue the officers saw the man slumped over towards the front passengers seat, according to the police report. The vehicle slowly rolled west and officers called for an ambulance.

The officers broadcast a description of the suspect, who fled east on Roosevelt Road in a red Dodge, the report said.

One person was being questioned Saturday, but no charges have been filed.

Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
