Church Vehicle Crashes Through Post Office Window
NORTHLAKE, Ill. (STMW) - Two women ended up in the Northlake post office the hard way on Nov. 9.
The occupants of the station wagon were reportedly nuns. While that has not been confirmed, the vehicle is owned by the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles, Northlake Police Cmdr. Jay Millitello aid.
The women were in a 1998 Ford station wagon in the parking lot directly west of the post office at 47 W. North Ave. At 9:37 a.m. the station wagon went over a concrete block, up onto a low sidewalk and through an 8-foot high window, tearing the window frame out in the process.
The vehicle then continued over 6 feet of lobby floor and through several rows of post office boxes before coming to a halt in the mail sorting area.
"She hit the accelerator instead of the brake," said Millitello.
An officer who came to make a report slipped and cut her right hand on the glass. City paramedics treated her then took her to Elmhurst Hospital for stitches. No one else was hurt.
