Church Vandalized On Southeast Side
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A church was discovered vandalized Saturday on the Southeast Side by a deacon preparing for morning service.
The vandalism occurred at the International Harbor of Grace Church in the 9700 block of South Avenue L, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.
Gang symbols and graffiti were found on the walls, floors and pews, several of which were pulled from their mounts, Estrada said. An antique organ was also smashed and keys pulled from the instrument.
A porcelain baptismal pool was damaged with several items thrown inside, Estrada said. Broken glass and drug paraphernalia were found on the floor.
A smaller church organ and three computers used to educate children were stolen, Estrada said.
The door of the church's community center was pried opened, police said.
