Christmas Eve Shooting Claims Gary Man's Life
GARY, Ind. (STMW) -- A Gary man died early Christmas Eve after being shot in the chest, according to the Lake County, Ind. Coroner's office.
The man was identified as Michael Weaver, 22, of the 4500 block of 13th Place. His death follows a string of shootings in Gary. An investigative team from the coroner's office pronounced the man dead at 6:25 a.m. in the 2400 block of Diamond Avenue in Gary.
Police say Weaver was in his Chevrolet around 5 a.m., when he was shot. Weaver then ran from his car, leaving a blood trail to outside the Midtown residence, where he collapsed.
Gary Police Detective Sgt. William Fazekas said the motive appeared to be robbery and that there were similarities between Weaver's death and the homicide earlier this month in the 2600 block of Massachusetts Street. In that incident, police found a man, who had been shot in the head, at the wheel of his grandfather's car.
The Gary Police Department and the Lake County Crime Lab are also investigating the apparent homicide.
The shooting comes a day after an East Chicago man was found dead from gunshot wounds in an alley north of 5th Avenue and Arthur Street in Gary. Police also worked a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon, in a nearby Gary alleyway at 5th and Grant in the Horace Mann neighborhood.
Anyone with information on Friday's homicide can call Fazekas at (219) 881-4752.
