Chris Sale Takes 3rd In AL Cy Young Voting
(CBS) White Sox ace left-hander Chris Sale has finished third in the AL Cy Young race, trailing winner Corey Kluber of the Indians and runner-up Felix Hernandez of the Mariners.
Kluber had 169 points, Hernandez had 159 and Sale had 78.
Sale was brilliant all season, going 12-4 with a 2.17 ERA and 208 strikeouts in 174 innings over 26 starts. His WHIP was 0.97.
Hurting Sale's chances was a forearm injury that cost him more than a month early in the season. The other two finalists were sensational all year as well.
Kluber went 18-9 with a 2.44 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. He also led the majors with 269 strikeouts. Fernandez went 15-6 with a 2.14 ERA and 0.92 WHIP.
Sale finished fifth in the AL Cy Young voting in 2013.
Dodgers ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw was a unanimous winner of the NL Cy Young award, his third in in the past four years. He went 21-3 with a 1.77 ERA, becoming the first player in MLB history to lead the majors in ERA for four straight seasons.
Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta finished ninth in the NL Cy Young voting. He went 10-5 with a 2.53 ERA and 0.99 WHIP.
