Choppy Waters And Frost Predicted For Saturday
CHICAGO (STMW) - More choppy waters on Lake Michigan and widespread frost may be in store for the Chicago area Saturday, but sunnier days are expected to follow on its heels.
According to the National Weather Service, waves on the lake could reach 8 to 12 feet Saturday, though won't likely reach the heights that wreaked havoc on joggers and bicyclists Friday when waves swept onto the lake shore path — sweeping some of them right off their feet.
Instead, the weather service is predicting another side effect of the cold air mass passing over the area — frost. That cold air combined with surface high pressure could set the stage for widespread frost across north and east central Illinois and in northwest Indiana Saturday night. But it may not stick around long. Though there is a small chance of isolated showers Saturday, the weather service is predicting sunny conditions and rising temperatures starting Sunday, when highs in the 60s are expected, and on into Wednesday when highs could hit the mid 70s in some spots.
Saturday and Sunday may still be a bit breezy, with wind gusts of up to 15 mph, but the weather service predicts winds will slow to only about 5 mph Monday.
