Chico Concedes Chicago Mayor's Race To Emanuel
CHICAGO (AP) - Former Chicago Public Schools President Gery Chico has conceded the mayor's race to former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.
Chico told supporters Tuesday that he and Emanuel spoke on the phone and he pledged to help the new mayor any way he could.
Chico had expressed confidence that he would force a runoff against Emanuel. But he got just over 24 percent of the vote with 90 percent of precincts reporting, compared to 55 percent for Emanuel.

With Chico's exit, Emanuel succeeds Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.
Chico served as Daley's chief of staff from 1992 through 1995 and was chairman of the City Colleges Board.
Chico had strong union support across the city and the backing of U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez.
