Monday is the first day of December, but more importantly it's National Pie Day! Celebrate this delicious holiday by heading over to Bang Bang Pie Shop on N. California Avenue. Bang Bang offers a menu filled with classic pies, in addition to a selection of seasonal items. All of Bang Bang's classic pies are vegetarian friendly including their chocolate pecan made of dark chocolate, maple sorgum filling, pecans and graham crust. If you're interested in trying a pie from their seasonal menu, the caramel apple crumble pie with locally grown apples draped in caramel sauce is definitely worth a shot. All slices go for $5 and full pies cost $26. Bang Bang Pie Shop is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Mondays.

Spend this Wednesday learning about the universe by checking out the Adler Planetarium's "Our Solar System" exhibit. "Our Solar System" allows planetarium goers to interact with real artifacts from outer space such as a piece of the moon, rocks from Mars and chunks from an actual meteorite that crash landed in Arizona. The exhibit is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. General admission tickets cost $8 for children age 3 to 11 and $12 for adults.

This Thursday, take the whole family to the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts on North Water Street to see The Lion King. Hailed as the most successful Disney musical of all time, The Lion King tells the story of a lion cub named Simba, heir to King Mufasa's throne in the Pride Lands of Africa. After Mufasa is trampled by a herd of wildebeest, Simba runs away from home convinced that he was to blame for his father's death by his evil uncle, Scar. The rest of the play tells the story of Simba growing up in exile and eventually returning to take his place as the Pride Land's rightful king. The show is directed by Julie Taymor and features music from Elton John. Tickets start online at $61.

Shady Records recording artist, Yelawolf, is coming to perform live this Friday at the Bottom Lounge on W. Lake Street. Yelawolf is preparing for the release of his second album with Shady Records, Love Story, sometime in 2015. His debut album, Radioactive, was released in 2011 and debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200 Chart. Popular songs from the Gadsen, Alabama native include "Hard White," "Push 'Em," and "Daddy's Lambo." Yelawolf was also featured in the Shady Records 2.0 Boys Cypher from the 2011 BET Awards alongside label mates Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5'9', Joe Budden and Eminem. The concert starts at 8:00 p.m. and tickets cost $20.

It isn't technically winter yet in the Windy City, but that shouldn't stop you from having some winter-y fun this weekend. Hit up the McFetridge Sports Center on N. California Avenue this Sunday for public skate from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The open skate is held in a regulation NHL sized ice rink with seating available for over 1,100 spectators (or one really proud parent). Open skate costs $2 for seniors, $4 for children under 13 and $5 for adults ages 18-61. Skates are available to rent for $3.
