Chicago's Gourmet Caramel Apples
By Rachel Azark
Nothing screams fall like crunching into a delicious caramel apple. There are a few places around Chicago, and one just a little further, to satisfy this craving that comes at this time of year. They also make great hostess gifts, or a dessert if sliced.

Mrs. Prindable's claims to have "invented" the "Gourmet Caramel Apple." I'm not sure if anyone can put a claim to that, but I'll go with it. They use the biggest and best apples available and smother it in caramel. They sell their jumbo gourmet apples at 4.5" tall and their petite apples that stand 3" tall. They have eight different signature flavors to choose from including white chocolate praline, triple chocolate and double chocolate peanut butter almond.

Since 1947, Kilwin's has been serving their customers delicious, sweet treats. Their original caramel recipe is still made in traditional copper kettles to make for smooth, creamy goodness. They then dip either Granny Smith or Macintosh apples into the mixture to make what they call The Perfect Apple.

In 1987, Graham's opened up in the quaint town of Geneva. Today, you can watch them make their homemade chocolate from their front windows. They use Granny Smith apples to make their caramel apples. They dip the apples in their caramel first and then roll them in their roasted and salted Spanish peanuts. It is the perfect combination of salty and sweet.

Ok, this one is a little bit of a hike, in fact it's in Wisconsin, but it's worthy of putting on the list because it's delicious. And also because their storefront window is completely lined with different kinds of caramel apples to choose from. Their apples run on the pricey side, especially if you go online, but in the store they should run a little cheaper. Anything you'd ever want on a caramel apple they have it – from the classic peanuts to Belgian chocolate to strawberry shortcake. Once you go, the town of Cedarburg is very cute to walk around too.
