Chicago's Full Fleet Of Snow Plows Are Working To Clear Streets
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation's full fleet of snow plow drivers is now out clearing the city's main streets.
The DSS increased its deployment to 287 trucks that will continue to plow and salt the streets. As soon as the snow stops falling and the main streets are clear, the snow trucks will begin clearing residential streets, said DSS.
Streets and Sanitation spokeswoman, Anne Sheahan said 210 drivers started working at 4 p.m. yesterday and were relieved around 8 a.m. WBBM's Nancy Harty reports.
She said the plan is that 287 drivers will continue to plow and salt arterial streets as snow continues to fall through the day.
In addition to the plows, she says they will have 24 4-by-4's, which she said are slightly larger than pickup trucks, that will salt and plow narrow streets and cul-de-sacs.
Sheahan said once the snow lets up and the main streets are clear, plows will move to side streets, which they estimate will be around 9 p.m.
The city is carefully watching the storm from Chicago's Snow Command Center at the Office of Emergency Management. They will adjust crews and clean up accordingly.
