Snow set to disrupt Chcago morning rush hour Friday, with 3 inches possible in parts
CHICAGO (CBS) — Snow develops after midnight and slows down the morning rush Friday.
Accumulating snow lingers until early afternoon Friday. The best timeframe for snow is 2 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Snow totals range from a half-inch in far northwest areas to 3 inches to the southeast into northwest Indiana. The timing Friday morning is terrible for the snow.
More serious winter weather is expected downstate. A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of central, south-central, and southwestern Illinois from 6 p.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday. In Southern Illinois and below, a winter storm warning is in effect from midnight Thursday night to midnight Friday.
The hardest-hit, including Southern Illinois, could see snow accumulations of between 4 and 7 inches.
On Saturday, a weak ridge of high pressure will give us chilly sunshine to start the day with high clouds increasing later in the day. The clouds are the leading edge of our next snowmaker for Sunday.
Snow increases through the afternoon and lingers into the evening.
