Chicago Weather: Potential For Severe Storms Friday Evening

(CBS) -- After an initial wave of rain swept into the area on Friday morning, Chicago can expect the potential for more severe weather later in the evening.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter counties in Indiana until 8:30 p.m.

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Grundy and Kendall counties until 1:30 a.m.

A Flash Flood Warning has also been issued for Cook, DuPage, Kankakee and Will counties in Illinois and Lake and Porter counties in Indiana until 1:45 a.m.

All areas of Chicago will be affected by heavy rain.  CBS 2's Mary Kay Kleist reports the main line of storms will form between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and move through the CBS 2 viewing area by midnight.

Quarter sized hail and wind gusts to 60 miles per hour are possible.

Rain totals could reach one to three inches in some Chicago-area locations.

The rain is even heavier farther to the south. A total of 3 to 6 inches has fallen in some areas between Pontiac and Peoria, according the the National Weather Service. Flash flooding is likely as more rain continues to fall.

The weather pattern will remain unsettled during the weekend, with showers and storms popping up periodically.

The weather also affected events in the area.

Oktoberfest was canceled in Manteno in Kankakee County.
