Chicago Weather: Wintry Mix, Snow Falling Across Area
CHICAGO (CBS)-- Rain moving through central Illinois is shifting to a mix of snow and sleet as it moves into the Chicago area, possibly bringing a few inches of accumulation on Monday.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for most of northern Illinois -- except Lake, Cook, and DuPage counties -- with 2 to 4 inches of wet slushy snow expected. Some of that may mix with sleet, keeping totals on the low side.
Monday is going to be cool with a wintry mix bringing several inches of wet, slushy snow later in the morning through the afternoon. High temperatures will only be in the 30's.
The highest totals should be west and northwest of the city. There may be localized totals above 4" near Rt 39 in DeKalb and LaSalle counties.
Mid-afternoon-evening for several hours the snow will fall at 1-2" per hour creating a slush on roads. The evening commute could be a messy one in some places.
Wet snow mixed with sleet and rain could create some isolated slushy conditions on roads.
Temperatures climb to the 40s by Tuesday and continue into Wednesday.
