Chicago Weather: Light Snow Blows Into Chicago Area
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Overall, the forecast for snow over that has now entered the area was on track Wednesday night, with little change.
The only fly in the ointment is a rather impressive, but very narrow band of snow that left some isolated 2- to 3-inch totals early Wednesday evening from Gary to Morris.
Outside of that narrow band, the totals still look on track. Snow showers continued Wednesday night, and totals of 1 to 3 inches were expected for most areas by morning – with higher isolated higher totals in the aforementioned narrow band.
The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation has deployed 211 snow vehicles to respond to the snow. Salt spreaders will work on keeping the city's arterial routes and Lake Shore Drive safe for cars and buses until the snow stops, and will later transition to residential streets if needed.
A Winter Weather Advisory continues for Northwest Indiana and some downstate counties until 9 a.m.
Scattered snow showers continue on Thursday, with lake-enhanced or lake-effect snow showers taking over. And additional 1 to 2" could be possible in isolated lake effect bands.
Lake-effect snow should wrap up before sunrise Friday morning, but a little morning snow could be possible.
