Chicago Weather: Severe Storms Across Area; Chicago Area Under Tornado Watch
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Severe storms are affecting most of the Chicago area as temperatures climb.
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Lake and Porter counties in Indiana until 8:45 p.m.
A sever thunderstorm warning has also been issued for Cook, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties in Illinois until 8:30 p.m.
A tornado watch has been issued for the Chicago area until 8 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Cook County until 4:45 p.m. Lake and Porter counties in Indiana are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 5:30 p.m., and 70 mph winds are possible.
CBS 2 meteorologist Ed Curran said there is a 10% tornado risk with this storm activity, as well as a risk for large hail and damaging winds. Areas in Northern Illinois have been raised to an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms.
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago has been lowering waterways to help prepare for more water following recent storms and flooding. They also advise residents to reduce their use of water to reserve space in the sewer systems for excess storm water.
Temperatures will be in the upper 70s Saturday and then rise to the 80s by Sunday.
Scattered showers and storm chances continue throughout the week. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s.
Memorial Day is going to be warm and humid with chances for thunderstorms.
