Chicago Weather: Heavy Rain, Flash Flood Watch

CHICAGO (CBS)-- Heavy rain was sweeping into the area Sunday afternoon, and it could lead to flooding.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Robb Ellis reported that heavy rain is expected to continue through the afternoon and evening.

Some isolated flooding is still possible especially through 10 p.m., but as of just after 4 p.m., no major flooding had been reported.

The rain should end by the morning, Ellis reported.

There is a Flash Flood Watch in place for virtually the entire Chicago area until 10 p.m. Sunday. The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communication said 0.25 to 0.75 inch of rain are anticipated.

There are also flood warnings in place along the Fox and Des Plaines rivers, which have come to their highest levels.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Ed Curran reported earlier in the day that there was a marginal chance for severe weather late Sunday afternoon and evening.

The rain should end by the morning, Ellis reported.

Fall officially begins on Monday. The rest of the week will be sunny and mostly sunny with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.

Morning showers are predicted for Wednesday.
