Chicago Terrorism Trial On Track For February
February trial set for Chicago businessman charged in connection with Mumbai terrorist attacks
CHICAGO (AP) - Prosecutors and defense attorneys say they're on track for a February trial of a Chicago businessman charged in connection with 2008 terrorist attacks in India.
Tahawwur Rana stood by his attorneys during a status hearing Monday in Chicago wearing an orange jumpsuit and his ankles shackled.
Defense attorneys told U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber they need to know what evidence the government deems classified. Sensitive material may have to be presented behind closed doors.
The judge set another status hearing for Dec. 13 to address that.
Still, both sides say they should be ready for a Feb. 14 trial date.
Rana is accused of providing cover for a man who's admitted to scouting sites for the attack in Mumbai, which left more than 160 people dead. He's pleaded not guilty.
