Chicago Teen Charged In Villa Park Carjacking
VILLA PARK (CBS) -- A teenager from Chicago has been charged with carjacking after hitting a motorist over the head with a crowbar in Villa Park and then leading police on a chase that ended with the teen jumping out of the moving car.
Amine Rahmouni, 19, is charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and aggravated fleeing and eluding, according to Villa Park police.
About 10:30 p.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to the rear of North Park Mall at, 300 W. North Ave. in Villa Park for a vehicle theft in progress. The victim, found with a head injury, told officers he entered his vehicle and was approached by three males who demanded money, police said.
One of the suspects allegedly was armed with a handgun and another with a crowbar. When the victim attempted to escape, he was struck in the head by the subject with the crowbar. Rahmouni then stole the vehicle and the other suspects fled, police said.
Villa Park police located the stolen vehicle driving east on North Avenue at Villa Avenue, but when officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away, police said.
Officers gave chase and pursued the car to Utley Road and Rex Boulevard in Elmhurst, where Rahmouni jumped from the moving vehicle and fled on foot, according to police. He eventually was taken into custody.
The victim was transported to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his head and later released.
Rahmouni was being held in the DuPage County Jail on Friday. Police were searching for two other suspects.
