Parents, students and teachers marched along the West and South sides, visiting about a dozen of the 54 schools slated for closure.
A teacher at Leif Ericson told a group of protesters she is worried the closures will bring more violence.
"It is very stressful, but with you all out here, you constantly uplift my spirits and the spirits of all the staff members," the teacher said.
The marches, organized by the Chicago Teachers Union, are slated to continue Monday and end at City Hall, where participants plant o drop off petitions calling for a moratorium on closures to the mayor's office.
The Board of Education votes on Wednesday.
