Chicago postal workers rally against any efforts to dismantle USPS
Chicago postal workers rallied in Federal Plaza Sunday in opposition to efforts to privatize the U.S. Postal Service.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson spoke to the crowd, saying democracy is dependent on the mail carriers' work delivering the mail.
Postal workers echoed that sentiment, and explained they attended the rally for several reasons.
"To save my job. To save my job, my benefits," said postal worker Edith Romero. "All of us, we work very, very hard, all types of weather. I'm not a big fan of the rain, but I go out there and do it, because I really do love and enjoy what I do."
U.S. Reps. Danny Davis and Raja Krishnamoorthi and Sen. Dick Durbin also spoke in support of the postal workers at the rally.
President Trump is calling for an overhaul of USPS.
The Chicago rally was one of several across the country.
