Chicago Police on the lookout for stolen cop cars

CHICAGO (WBBM) - Chicago Police are asking for the public's help in finding two stolen police cars, one belonging to an off-duty officer and one belonging to the U.S. Marshals Service. The cars contain police equipment and 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
"We're more concerned about this because of what the vehicle may be used for. We don't want the police impersonating thing going on. That's what we are concerned about and of course the ammunition being taken as well," said Area 5 Lieutenant Kevin Friedrich.

The U.S. Marshal's car, a black 2005 Acura RSX is equipped with lights and a siren. The car contains a U.S. Marshals Service radio and placard, as well as other police equipment.

The other car, also a black 2005 Acura RSX is owned by an off-duty police officer. The officer had 1,000 rounds of .38 caliber ammunition in the car. Both cars were stolen within blocks of each other near Harlem and Diversey but Friedrich wouldn't say if the vehicles were targeted.

"At this time, we don't have anything that points that way. Sometimes, cars are taken for their parts, easy access. At this time there is nothing that connects them other than the fact that they are both law enforcement people who drove the vehicles."

Friedrich asks that anyone with information about these stolen vehicles should call police.
