Mother, child found safe after kidnapping on Chicago's Northwest Side, police say
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A mother and her child reportedly kidnapped on the Northwest Side Sunday afternoon have been found safe and unharmed, Chicago Police say.
A woman and her child, both of unknown age, were inside an apartment before being forced into an SUV by two unknown males, a witness told police.
It happened in the 5500 block of North Austin Avenue around 4:39 p.m.
A neighbor told CBS 2 that her husband heard screams, and when he looked out the window, he saw the adult victim in a headlock and being shoved into the vehicle.
The kidnappers fled southbound from the location with the two victims, police said.
Some neighbors said the mother and daughter had moved into the three-unit building just this month.
Many of the neighbors were shocked to learn about the abduction that happened on a block full of families and longtime residents.
Details about how the victims were found and who is responsible for abducting them were still unclear Sunday night.
Area Five detectives are investigating.
