Chicago Marathon Suspends Registration
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A major false start on the first day of registration for the Bank Of America Chicago Marathon.
Organizers on Tuesday were forced to suspend registration due to technical issues. Many users were unable to access the registration page for hours. At times during the afternoon, users were able to access the registration landing page, while others could not.
A statement on the marathon Facebook page said: "We do not plan on reopening registration within the next two days. We will provide another update on registration by 5 p.m. Central Standard Time on Thursday.
Race organizers also indicated on their Twitter page that some runners who did manage to register may have been charged multiple times."
ACTIVE.com network released a statement saying that they,"experienced technology system issues with registration for the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. For this, all of us at ACTIVE sincerely apologize. Together, with Chicago Marathon we have suspended registration until these issues are resolved."
There are currently 15,000 entries remaining, according to the Facebook page.
The race has become hugely popular and has been filling up faster ever year. The race can accommodate 45,000 runners.
