Chicago Man Will Serve 7 Years For Holdup, Shooting
HAMMOND, Ind.(STMW) - Chicago man who was shot while robbing a Gary, Ind. pawn shop will serve at least seven years in prison after pleading guilty in the case, according to court records.
Aaron Cooper, 18, is pleading guilty to one count each of robbing a licensed gun dealer and using gun during a crime of violence, according to his plea agreement filed Friday in the U.S. District Court in Hammond.
Cooper and three other men were charged with robbing Jack's Loan Office, 1608 Broadway, on Sept. 3. One of the men pointed a gun at an employee just before the store closed and demanded money, according to court records.
The men started to argue over the safe when one of the employees pulled a gun on them. The employee and one of the defendants traded shots, with Cooper getting hit. He was dropped off at The Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus in Gary.
The defendants also dropped a bag holding about 20 guns while they fled, according to the indictment.
