Chicago Man Killed By Semi On Interstate 65
MERRILLVILLE (CBS) -- A semi-pedestrian crash on I-65 northbound near the 253.8 mile marker killed a Chicago man and saw northbound traffic brought down to one lane for nearly two hours Sunday night.
Preliminary investigation report that witnesses said a man was standing in the center lane about 5:57 p.m. Sunday, according to the Indiana State Police. At least three vehicles swerved and missed him in the roadway.
Witnesses then attempted to help the man when he ran out into the center lane again and was struck by Osmam Bangura, a 37 year-old from Miami who was driving his 2006 black International semi northbound in the center lane of I-65. The man died at the scene.
The man was identified as Zuhair M. Elturk, 33, of Chicago, according to Indiana State Police.
Bangura was not injured, and the investigation is continuing, the report states.
