Chicago Man Charged In Bank Robbery
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 42-year old Chicago man who allegedly robbed a bank branch north of The Loop last week has been ordered held without bond.
Leroy Delphie, whose last known address was in the 4800 block of South Lake Park Avenue, was charged with one count of bank robbery in federal court, the FBI announced Monday.
He allegedly robbed North Community Bank branch, 800 North State St., on Friday and took an estimated $1,050, according to a criminal complaint.
The teller who gave him the money also added a dye pack and "bait money," which are bills with pre-recorded serial numbers, the complaint said.
Police spotted a man fitting the description of the robber at a bus stop near the intersection of Clark and Division. The man identified himself as Delphie, and when police brought him to the bank branch, two tellers positively identified him as the robber, the court document said.
Delphie later confessed to the FBI that he robbed the bank, the complaint said.
The search for the robber and dye pack explosion led to some anxious moments for Red Line riders on Friday.
Delphie appeared Monday in court and was ordered held without bond, pending his next scheduled court appearance.
