Chicago Dentist Offering Free Care For Needy For Christmas
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago dentist wants to put the smile back into Christmas for those who can't afford dental care.
WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, for one day each year, Dr. Jonathan Yahav of the Chicago Smile Center opens his office to those who otherwise wouldn't be able to get even the most basic dental care.
"We like to enhance the happiness of the public and provide them with some basic cosmetic bonding as well as emergency services," he said.
Free Dental Care For Christmas
Most of those who show up for the free care are unemployed and caught in a bind because they don't have dental insurance. They also have a tough time finding work, because their appearance is hurt by the way their teeth look.
"When they apply for a job, they would like to have some basic smile that will assist them when they seek a new job," Yahav said.
He said he's already been swamped with calls from those who turned out in past years, asking when he plans to offer his free day next.
Yahav said he will take patients on a first-come, first-served basis from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday (Christmas Eve) at his Chicago Smile Center office in Suite 3250 of the Hancock Center, located at 875 N. Michigan Av.
