Chicago Cubs World Series Parade Is Friday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago Cubs World Series victory rally will be Friday.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Supt. Eddie Johnson made that announcement Thursday.
The team will leave Wrigley Field at 10 a.m. and travel to the start of the parade route, at Michigan Avenue and Oak Street, at 11 a.m.
The parade will travel along Michigan Avenue between Oak St. and Ohio St. and then along Columbus Dr. between Monroe St. and Balbo Ave. Fans who want to catch the downtown parade are encouraged to see them along this route.
Fans are encouraged to view the parade at the following locations:
• Addison from Sheffield to Pine Grove
• North Michigan Avenue from Oak St. to Ohio St.
• Columbus Dr. from Monroe St. to Balbo Ave.
Then, the team will arrive at Hutchison Field in Grant Park around noon.
The rally is free and open to the public. All attendees must pass through security screening at entrances at Michigan Avenue and Jackson Blvd. and at Michigan Avenue and Congress Pkwy.
Closed water bottles will be allowed into the rally and food vendors will be on site.
The public should expect street closures surrounding the parade route starting as early as Friday at 4 am.
Officials are encouraging fans to use public transportation. The CTA will offer additional service to riders traveling Friday to the Loop.
Listen: Pat Hughes' call of final out that clinched championship
Trucks carrying hundreds of portable toilets arrived at Hutchinson Field in Grant Park early Thursday morning, as did work crews that began setting up materials for a stage. Metal barricades also have been set up to Columbus Drive, leading into the park.
That was where the Blackhawks had their rallies after their Stanley Cup championships in 2013 and 2015.
Up to two million fans turned out for the Blackhawks rallies, and nearly that many attended the Chicago White Sox World Series parade in 2005.
Chicago Public Schools students are off for a teachers' institute day on Friday, but staff will be at work.
