Chicago Bank Of America Branch Robbed
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Bank of America branch on the Southeast Side was robbed Tuesday morning by a man claiming to have a bomb.
The robbery at the branch at 9233 S. Commercial Ave. happened at 10:09 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. That location is a Bank of America branch, according to the bank's website.
A male suspect presented a teller with a note demanding money and saying he had a bomb, Mirabelli said. The teller complied and the robber fled with an unknown amount of money.
No one was injured, and the robber was not in custody as of 10:30 a.m.
Chicago police and the FBI are investigating.
There have been at least 173 reported bank robberies in the Chicago area in 2010, according to the FBI. There were 190 reported in 2009.
