Chicago-Area Couple Buys 'Field Of Dreams' Location
(CBS) – Young baseball players might just have the chance to play on The Field of Dreams from the movie classic.
It's all thanks to a family from Chicago's southwest suburbs. Were they hearing voices? CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez reports.
The Stillman family from of Oak Lawn documented their trip to the Field of Dreams, or the Dyersville, Iowa film location for the classic 1989 Kevin Kostner film, where Denise Stillman had a dream of her own.
"I said we should buy that and put a big tournament facility next to it to keep it alive," she says.
She doesn't have a background in the baseball business, but she says she figured she could find the right people.
Denise Stillman is halfway there, having closed a deal on the property last week. Now she hopes that if she builds it -– All Star Ballpark Heaven, that is -- they will come.
Thursday, at the American Baseball Coaches Association gathering downtown, Stillman was spreading the word.
For Stillman, who saw the movie while on a first date with her husband, it's more than business.
"The first time we went as a family, it was magical," she says of visiting.
"I've seen men cry over this movie," her daughter Claire says.
"My dad cries and I cry, I'll admit that," her son, John, says.
The field of dreams from the movie and the farm house will be untouched. But 24 more fields will be added, half of them by 2014.
The previous owners, Don and Becky Lansing, now have a little more than $3 million to enjoy in retirement.
