A second cheerleading coach at Lake Zurich High School has been charged with stealing more than $38,000 in funds from the school district in Chicago's northwestern suburbs.

Kaylin A. Dietrich, 33, of Crystal Lake, has been charged with two counts of theft and two counts of money laundering.

She turned herself in and made her first court appearance in Lake County on Thursday. She is due back in court on April 17.

Police have said Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 contacted them in February 2024, after noticing financial discrepancies in invoices from cheerleading coaches at Lake Zurich High School.

The investigation revealed Dietrich and 26-year-old Gabriele N. Kelly, of Algonquin, had diverted more than $38,000 in school funds for their own personal use.

Kelly turned herself in on Tuesday, and also has been charged with two counts of theft and two counts of money laundering. Kelly is due back in court on April 9.

School district officials said both Kelly and Dietrich are no longer employed at Lake Zurich High School.

"The district is proud of the diligence of the Business Department staff in finding and investigating these irregularities and grateful for a strong partnership with the Lake Zurich Police Department," District 95 said in a statement.

Police said their investigation is ongoing, and asked anyone with information on the embezzlement to contact Lake Zurich Police Detective Sergeant Andy Sieber at 847-719-1690, extension 6125.
