Charlie De Mar Joins CBS 2 As General Assignment Reporter
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Charlie De Mar is joining CBS 2 [WBBM-TV] as a general assignment reporter, beginning June 15.
De Mar comes to CBS 2 from WTTV and WXIN, the CBS and Fox stations in Indianapolis, IN, where he has reported lead stories for the stations' evening newscasts.
"Charlie is a talented journalist who knows Chicago and understands what Original Reporting means," Jeff Kiernan, CBS 2 Vice President and News Director, said. "His style of news-gathering and reporting aligns with our mission to provide viewers with a fresh perspective on what's happening in and around Chicago."
De Mar is credited with establishing a local crime reporting franchise series at CBS4/FOX 59. His work has also had a national impact, and a series of reports led to the introduction of a new federal law that would hold all Veterans Affairs hospitals more accountable for their prescribing practices.
"Chicago is my hometown and I'm excited to return as a journalist and work for the station that inspired me to become a reporter," De Mar said.
"CBS 2 is the epitome of a great news organization and I'm thrilled to have been asked to join this talented team."
De Mar graduated Cum Laude from the University of Arizona in 2012, where he earned a BA in broadcast journalism and minored in marketing. A Lincoln Park native, his favorite professional teams are the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks.
